According to surveys done by auto insurance companies, this narrow age bracket of mature drivers have demonstrated a greater amount of responsibility and conscientiousness as motorists and are involved in fewer traffic accidents compared to younger drivers. This means that this age group files claims significantly less frequently than other age groups. This provides auto insurance companies the allowance to offer them lower or competitive auto insurance rates.
Aside from this favorable finding, there is an active way for drivers in this age bracket to avail of discounts in their auto insurance rates. They can take defensive driving classes. More often than not most insurers apply the discounts to defensive driving course graduates automatically. In any case, it is still more prudent that they keep their auto insurance agent updated of this information to maximize the discounts they may be eligible for.
However, elderly drivers who are entering their 60s may see a dramatic increase in their auto insurance premiums. This age population of drivers seems to exhibit more involvement in car accidents. The dramatic increase in premiums for this age group is due to the fact that they file claims more often.
